Conference ‘Journey into the Ageing & Alterations of Paintings'(JAAP)
The Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+ (NICAS) will hold a two-day conference at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam on 3 and 4 April 2025. This conference will explore how molecular research contributes to deeper insights into the creation and craftsmanship of paintings and to decision-making and treatments in both active and preventive conservation of paintings.
NICAS Colloquium Online – 10 April 2025
Throughout the year, NICAS organizes a bi-weekly Colloquium featuring short lunch lectures where researchers share updates, present new ideas, or discuss the outcomes of their work. The Colloquium aims to keep the field informed about the latest developments, foster the exchange of knowledge, and encourage collaboration. This week’s presentation is by Fabiana di Gianvincenzo (Rijksmuseum).
Symposium BlackEn: New Research into the Blackened Enamels on the Geldermalsen finds
This symposium marks the culmination of a one-year NICAS small grant project. The research investigated the blackening of lead-based enamel glaze decoration on Chinese porcelain decorated with enamel colours that were found in the wreck of the 18th century Dutch cargo ship the Geldermalsen.
